IT IS OUR TURN: TOWARDS ERADICATION OF POVERTY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The United Nations  High Level Panel on the post-2015 Development Agenda has issued a Report where they propose a global agenda to eradicate poverty in the world by 2030. The Panel was established by UN Secretary General. This group of 27 eminent people from all around the Globe has advised the UN Secretary General on ways to end poverty and achieve sustainable development.

You can contribute to the definition of the post-2105 Development Agenda by participating in the Online Survey available here, where all of us are required to pick six of the sixteen possible issues that in our view would be decisive for global and sustainable development in the years to come. It's our turn!!

Is UN Women Useful for Advancing Gender Equality?

I highly recommend this article of Professors Chinkin and Charlesworth where they engage in a discussion on the value of UN Women as a tool for advancing Gender Equality. As they sustain in their article, the creation of institutional structures is not enough unless it is accompanied by a development of the normative framework. The cause of women needs more than institutional coherence and far more can be done within the framework of the United Nations in the fields of equality, development and peace.
